BENGALURU: Artificial intelligence could accelerate climate action across sectors ranging from agriculture and energy to manufacturing and mobility, but translating its potential into measurable outcomes will require reliable data, stronger partnerships and responsible infrastructure, speakers said at a climate technology summit in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
The AI for Climate Tech Summit 2026, convened by Climate Collective Foundation (CCF) as part of Bangalore Climate Data Week, brought together government representatives, technology leaders, climate innovators and startups to examine how AI can support climate solutions while addressing the growing energy and water demands of digital infrastructure.

Discussions covered applications including weather and flood forecasting, energy optimisation, freight electrification and resource efficiency, with participants examining how promising technologies can move beyond experimentation to deliver practical results at scale.

Sanjeev Gupta, chief executive officer of the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission, highlighted the need to balance the expansion of AI and data centres with responsible energy use and climate considerations. He said Karnataka was well positioned to demonstrate a green AI model, supported by its technology ecosystem and clean energy base.

Jui Joshi, a member of CCF’s founding team, discussed AI’s potential to strengthen climate resilience in agriculture and water security. Highlighting the foundation’s portfolio of 410 women-led startups, she emphasised the importance of ecosystem support and credible tools to measure and communicate climate impact.

Nalin Agarwal, co-founder of CCF, said AI could accelerate climate innovation through better forecasting, energy optimisation and smarter resource use. He said the foundation works with startups to help them develop and scale solutions, while its research and convenings identify gaps and opportunities across the climate technology ecosystem.

Pratap Raju, founder of CCF, said sustainability represented a broader transformation in how businesses and communities operate and manage their value chains. He noted that climate technology adoption often involves extended testing, pilot projects and sales cycles as businesses assess the value and operational implications of new solutions.

The summit featured thematic roundtables on power, manufacturing, urban risk, data, mobility, adaptation and resilience, and responsible innovation. Discussions focused on the partnerships, reliable data foundations and ecosystem capabilities needed to expand the adoption of AI in climate-critical sectors.

Bangalore Climate Data Week runs from October 12 to 16, bringing together India’s data and climate communities to explore how AI, data and technology can advance climate action in India and the Global South.
