PANIPAT: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil) has flagged off the maiden rake of its Xtreme Weather Grade (XWG) High Speed Diesel (HSD) from the Panipat Marketing Complex for the Indian Army’s Eastern Command.
The milestone dispatch was officially flagged off by Lt Gen Mukesh Chadha, Director General Supplies & Transport and Senior Colonel Commandant, IHQ of MoD (Army), alongside Mr. K John Prasad, Country Head (Institutional Business) for IOC, and Mr. M L Dahriya, Executive Director and Refinery Head of Panipat Refinery.
Launched initially in July 2026 by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), XWG HSD is engineered specifically to withstand extreme cold and high-altitude operational parameters, ensuring dependable performance for military vehicles and equipment in harsh terrain. With this new dispatch, the fuel’s distribution footprint has broadened from the northern borders to encompass the eastern frontier. IndianOil is now the first public sector undertaking to position XWG diesel in the eastern region via a dedicated supply chain.
This rollout follows a series of specialized fuel developments by IndianOil tailored for the Armed Forces, including Winter Grade Diesel in 2019, All Weather Grade HSD in 2022, and Low Sulphur Low Aromatic Superior Kerosene Oil in 2022.
Highlighting the strategic value of the expansion, Lt Gen Mukesh Chadha described XWG as a potential game-changer for high-altitude operational readiness, noting that the fuel is now extending past Ladakh to support operations in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. He praised IndianOil for transforming the requirement into an operational reality.
Mr. K. John Prasad reiterated the corporation’s commitment to the nation, stating that extending these supplies to the Eastern Command secures vital support for the Army in another strategic theatre under the banner of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
