New Delhi: After remaining at the helm of affairs at the WAPCOS since 1989, the Chairman –cum Managing Director of this Jal Shakti Ministry public enterprise, Mr R K Gupta is scheduled to retire in September this year. He was given two years extension in 2018.

Mr Gupta was appointed as CMD, WAPCOS Limited w.e.f.27.04.2010 for a period of five years. With the approval of the ACC his tenure was extended up to 30.09.2018 i.e. the date of his superannuation, vide an order dated 25.11.2014. Further, with the approval of the ACC he was re-employed as CMD, WAPCOS Limited for a period of two years from the date of his superannuation on 01.10.2018.

Insiders in the government say Mr Gupta is once again lobbying to stick to the position with the help of his ‘well – wishers’ spread across bureaucracy, and political leaders of different hues. Mr Gupta was also given charge of CMD of another PSU National Projects Construction Corporation Limited (NPCC) last year after the acting CMD of the NPCC came under eyes of vigilance agencies.

NPCC is a Miniratna PSU, which was set up as a premier construction company to create the necessary infrastructure for the economic development of the country in the core sectors of irrigation and water resources, power and heavy industries. It also comes under the renamed Jal Shakti Ministry.

Insiders in the Ministry say this time Mr Gupta may be switched over to a full time CMD of the NPCC and will be in additional charge of the WAPCOS, where he is deep –rooted to further the interests of the stake-holders.

A section of top bureaucracy whom Mr Gupta is reported to have obliged on many occasions is also backing Mr Gupta to acquire a new role before his retirement in September this year.
