NEW DELHI: Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. has launched India’s first in-car payment solution at its retail outlets in association with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and ToneTag for TATA. CARS. Unveiled during the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026, the initiative enables drivers to securely pay for fuel directly through their connected vehicle dashboards.
The system utilizes NPCI’s UPI Circle framework—specifically the integration of IoT devices and software on the UPI ecosystem—allowing motorists to complete fuel transactions via their vehicle interface without needing a separate mobile application, card, or external payment device.
Additionally, the technology integrates IndianOil’s XTRAREWARDS loyalty program, letting eligible users accumulate reward points automatically during transactions without sharing mobile numbers. By combining IndianOil’s retail footprint, TATA.CARS’ connected vehicle network, and NPCI’s digital payment architecture, the collaboration aims to streamline the refuelling experience.
IndianOil marks the country’s first fuel retailer to introduce an in-car payment system at its retail outlets, establishing a foundation for broader in-vehicle commerce and digital mobility services.
