New Delhi: India will host the inaugural Global Pythonova Pythian Games in New Delhi from December 3 to 5, 2025, marking a landmark in global cultural diplomacy. The announcement was made during the 3rd National Executive Council Meeting of the Pythian Council of India, led by Bijender Goel, founder of the Modern Pythian Games.
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has pledged full support for the event, with further collaboration underway with the Ministry of Culture and the Delhi government. Delegates from across Indian states joined strategic discussions during the council meeting at Hotel Le Meridien.
Endorsed by international bodies such as the International Delphic Committee (Russia), Ecumenical Delphic Union (Greece), and the Government of Cyprus, the Modern Pythian Games revive the spirit of the ancient Greek cultural competitions last held over 1,600 years ago.
“This is a global platform for peace and unity through culture,” said Goel, adding that a franchise model will be launched at global, national, and local levels for transparency and inclusivity.
Mr. Shantanu Agrahari, IAS, President of the Pythian Council of India, announced that the next National Pythian Games will be held in Sept/Oct 2025, serving as a rehearsal for Indian participants.
Unlike traditional sports events, the Pythian Games feature multidisciplinary competitions in arts, heritage, traditional sports, and creative technologies. A newly launched mobile app will allow virtual participation in music, poetry, painting, marathons, and more.
“The Games will promote cultural solidarity and creative diplomacy,” said Shiv Kumar, Secretary General of the Pythian Council of India. “India has a historic opportunity to lead this peaceful renaissance.”
Prominent dignitaries included senior bureaucrats from the IAS, IRS, and IPS cadres, as well as cultural leaders and entrepreneurs.
