NEW DELHI — REC Limited, under the Ministry of Power, has successfully mediated a pivotal MoU between Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) and the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), aimed at strengthening the quality testing of power infrastructure in Meghalaya and the broader North-East India. The agreement, signed in the presence of top officials including Dr. Shakeel P. Ahammed, Shri Jitendra Srivastava and Dr. J. Sreedevi, marks a significant step forward under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

The collaboration’s primary goal is to establish an NABL-accredited testing facility in Meghalaya, which will address logistical challenges faced by the North Eastern States in sending materials for testing to far-off labs. CPRI will offer comprehensive technical support to MePDCL to ensure the facility meets NABL standards.

By bringing quality testing closer to the region, the initiative aims to accelerate the Field Material Quality Testing and Inspection (FMQI) process, reducing delays previously caused by transporting heavy equipment such as Distribution Transformers, across long distances.

Speaking at the signing, the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya emphasized the initiative’s role in accelerating RDSS projects, while CMD of REC highlighted the importance of overcoming regional geographical barriers to ensure high standards of material quality for consumers.
