NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal on Wednesday represented India at the Twelfth Session of the Justice Ministers’ Meeting (JMM) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Member States, held via video conference.

Addressing the gathering, Meghwal said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has embarked on a comprehensive transformation of its justice system to make it accessible, inclusive, and technology-driven. He highlighted initiatives such as the E-Lok Adalat, the promotion of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and the framing of business-facilitating laws like the Commercial Courts Act and Arbitration & Conciliation framework to improve the investment climate.

SCO member states — including China, Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and others — emphasized strengthening cooperation in the legal sphere, sharing best practices, and advancing digital justice systems. The ministers adopted a Joint Statement reaffirming commitments to enhance legal collaboration, exchange of information, and the use of ADR mechanisms.

The next Justice Ministers’ Meeting of the SCO Member States will be hosted by Tajikistan in 2026.
