News Delhi — India is positioning itself as a global arbitration hub, focusing on credible arbitral institutions, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (I/C) Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal said Friday at the inaugural India-Singapore Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) on Law and Dispute Resolution.

Co-chaired with Singapore’s Minister for Law Edwin Tong, the meeting reviewed institutional arbitration, mediation, and commercial courts. Tong highlighted growing legal cooperation and encouraged India to ratify the Singapore Convention on Mediation. Meghwal noted India’s reforms, including amendments to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, and the Mediation Act, 2023, citing the Mahabharata’s mediation legacy.

Discussions showcased India’s transition to institutional arbitration via the India International Arbitration Centre and investor-friendly commercial courts. Singapore shared insights from SIAC, SIMC, and SICC. Both sides agreed to enhance training, adopt best practices, and strengthen the commercial dispute resolution ecosystem.
