GURUGRAM: Indian Oil Corp. Ltd. (IndianOil) and Air India have signed a memorandum of understanding to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a step aimed at reducing carbon emissions and advancing India’s transition to greener air travel.
The agreement builds on IndianOil’s milestone of becoming the first Indian company to receive ISCC CORSIA certification for SAF production at its Panipat refinery. The certification recognizes compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), setting global standards for sustainability.
“This MoU with Air India represents a strategic step in India’s transition to sustainable aviation,” said A.S. Sahney, chairman of IndianOil. “With ISCC-CORSIA-certified SAF, IndianOil is ready to provide a solution that will decarbonize air travel and align with global climate goals.”
Air India CEO Campbell Wilson said the collaboration supports the airline’s efforts to achieve the International Air Transport Association’s Net Zero by 2050 target. “We are committed to supporting India’s sustainable aviation goals while reinforcing our own long-term climate strategy,” Wilson said.
The partnership is expected to help integrate SAF into India’s commercial aviation operations, reinforcing the country’s position as a front-runner in the global energy transition.
