New Delhi: REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd. (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Ltd., signed major agreements to deploy 3.3 million smart prepaid meters in Gujarat under the second phase of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
The agreements include the Project Implementation Agency (PIA) and Distribution Development Framework (DDF) pacts for the appointment of an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Service Provider within the Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd. (PGVCL) jurisdiction. The project will follow a Design-Build-Finance-Own-Operate-Transfer (DBFOOT) model.
RECPDCL also signed a contract agreement with Bharat Grid Pvt. Ltd. (BGPL), the selected AMI service provider—a joint venture between Actis and EDF India.
The signing took place in Rajkot in the presence of K.P. Joshi, IAS, MD of PGVCL; T.S.C. Bosh, CEO of RECPDCL; Saurabh Rastogi, executive director of RECPDCL; R.J. Vala, chief engineer of PGVCL; Christophe Feuillard, CEO of BGPL; and other officials from the involved organizations.
The smart metering project aims to reduce technical and commercial losses, minimize downtime, enhance consumer engagement, and improve overall operational efficiency in Gujarat’s power distribution sector.
