New Delhi: IndianOil has given a green hydrogen fuel cell bus to the Indian Navy, marking an important step toward encouraging sustainable transportation alternatives. IndianOil and the Indian Navy have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on hydrogen fuel cell technology for heavy-duty e-mobility.
The MoU was exchanged between Vice Admiral Deepak Kapoor, Controller of Logistics, Indian Navy, and Dr Kannan Chandrasekaran, Executive Director, IndianOil, at Nau Sena Bhawan, New Delhi in presence of IndianOil Chairman SM Vaidya and the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi.
The Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy praised the partnership between IndianOil and the Navy for its trust and commitment to deploying environmentally friendly transportation, including a hydrogen bus.
IndianOil Chairman S M Vaidya stated that we are celebrating a key milestone by delivering an advanced Green Hydrogen fuel cell bus to the Indian Navy, representing their commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. IndianOil is in the forefront of advancing green hydrogen and fuel cell technology, offering new solutions to support defense forces and fulfill future demands, he added.
IndianOil is currently operating 15 fuel cell buses in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, covering a total mileage of 300,000 km, with each bus expected to travel at least 20,000 km.
The Indian Navy and IndianOil are collaborating to promote hydrogen and fuel cell technologies for heavy-duty e-mobility. The study will assess fuel cell electric buses’ performance in Delhi-NCR, local fuel and air quality impacts, and their operational dependability.
