Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba gets an extension for one year

New Delhi :Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba was given a one-year extension on August 3. He will serve as Cabinet Secretary until August 30, 2024. His service has been extended for the third time for another year.

Mr. Gauba, a former Union home secretary, was appointed to the country’s top administrative post for two years in 2019. He received a one-year extension in 2021 and another in August of last year.

According to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), Mr. Gauba, a 1982-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Jharkhand cadre, has been granted a one-year extension in service beyond August 30, 2023, in accordance with the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958, and Rule 56(d) of the Fundamental Rules.

Mr. Gauba is credited with being the primary architect of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, which divided the former state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories following the repeal of the special status granted to it under Article 370 of the Constitution.

He had previously worked as a secretary in the Union Home Ministry and Urban Development Ministry and as Chief Secretary in Jharkhand. Mr. Gauba received his bachelor’s degree in physics from Patna University.

He is a Jharkhand cadre IAS officer from the 1982 batch. Throughout his career, he has held a number of important positions in the government. Before becoming the Cabinet Secretary, he served as the Home Secretary of India from 2017 to 2019, during which he played a crucial role in handling various issues related to internal security and governance.
