Google India has announced the launch of a ‘Startup School’ to mentor 10,000 startups in the country’s tier II and III cities.

Startup School is a series of guided online trainings designed to provide tools, products, and knowledge to early-stage startup founders.

The curriculum will include instructional modules on topics such as developing an effective product strategy, diving deep into product user value, road mapping and product requirements document development, building apps for the next billion users in markets such as India, driving user acquisition, and many others.

The nine-week programme will also include fireside chats with Google executives and trailblazing collaborators from the startup ecosystem, including fintech, D2C, B2B and B2C e-commerce, language, social media and networking, and job search.

With nearly 70,000 startups, India is the world’s third largest startup incubator. And as more Indian founders successfully lead their companies to IPOs or unicorn status, it has triggered a virtuous cycle in which their success has fuelled aspirations among young Indians across the country.

Startups are not limited to Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, or Hyderabad. There are numerous fast-growing startups in India, with headquarters in cities such as Jaipur, Indore, Gorakhpur, and others.

But, approximately 90% of all startups fail within the first five years of their journey—mostly for the same key reasons—unmanaged cash burn, flawed demand assessment, ineffective feedback loops, or lack of leadership.

Programs that can organise this knowledge into a structured curriculum and deliver it across a broad footprint are needed.” “Startup School India,” a Google for Startups initiative, is intended to do just that as we coordinate our efforts to support this expansion .
