New Delhi: The Lakshadweep Administration has set a new record for COVID-19 management by vaccinating all eligible youngsters aged 15 to 18 in a short period of time. Lakshadweep is the first of the UTs and states to do this.

The UT Administrator initiated a statewide immunisation programme for children in Kavaratti on January 3. Because of many school-based awareness programmes and mobilisation actions across Lakshadweep’s ten inhabited islands, the target of 3492 children were met barely one week after the immunisation drive began.

Lakshadweep had previously become the first among the UTs and states to achieve a 100 percent vaccination in other groups, such as healthcare employees, frontline workers, and individuals over the age of 18.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has provided adequate quantities of Covaxin doses to facilitate vaccinations of children and to administer booster doses. Also, as per ICMR guidelines, Lakshadweep administration has begun providing booster doses to frontline workers, healthcare workers, and citizens over 60 years of age from 10th January 2021.

Lakshadweep administration is proactively managing COVID-19 with measures such as night curfews, mandatory RTPCR negative certificates, active vaccination, testing, and tracking, as well as preparing for the third wave of the pandemic if it occurs in the future.
