KOLKATA: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), launched a two-week international training programme on corporate governance under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative.
The residential programme, titled “Corporate Governance for a Better Tomorrow: Empowering Leaders in Compliance, Risk and Sustainability,” is being held at the ICSI Centre for Corporate Governance, Research and Training (CCGRT) in Kolkata from Jan. 14 to 25, 2026.
The programme has attracted delegates from 16 countries, including Botswana, Fiji, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Mauritius and Vietnam.
A statutory body under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, ICSI said the initiative aims to promote global best practices in ethical governance, regulatory compliance and sustainable business leadership through structured knowledge exchange.
The curriculum covers key areas such as the Indian legal and regulatory framework, including the roles of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Securities and Exchange Board of India and the Reserve Bank of India. Sessions will also highlight India’s ease-of-doing-business reforms and flagship initiatives under the Digital India programme.
Other modules focus on ICSI secretarial standards for board and general meetings, Indian labour codes, ethical governance, ESG frameworks, sustainability disclosures and global risk management.
In addition to classroom instruction, participants will undertake a study tour of regulatory institutions in Kolkata to gain practical exposure. A two-day cultural tour of the city is also planned to introduce delegates to Kolkata’s historical and cultural heritage.
Established under the Company Secretaries Act, 1980, ICSI is India’s premier professional body for company secretaries. The institute has more than 78,000 members and approximately 250,000 students enrolled across the country.
