NEW DELHI: The Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA) and the Phoenix Foundation Sanstha launched the National Sustainability Council during the Save the Earth Conclave 2025, held on Earth Day at the NASC Complex in New Delhi today.

Centered on the theme “Bamboo for a Resilient Future,” the event emphasized bamboo’s role in climate resilience, ecological restoration, and rural development. ICFA also announced a National Platform on Bamboo-led Sustainability in partnership with the Bharti Institute of Public Policy at ISB Hyderabad and AARDO.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, in his keynote, called bamboo a “transformative opportunity” for carbon capture and rural livelihoods. Maharashtra’s ₹4,300 crore investment in bamboo initiatives was lauded, with praise for state leadership including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.

ICFA Chairman Suresh Prabhu and Maharashtra Bamboo Mission Advisor Pasha Patel highlighted bamboo’s climate and economic benefits, while Union Minister Bhagirath Choudhary advocated its inclusion in national agri-ecological strategies.

Two new initiatives—the India Agriculture Sustainability Council and Save the Earth Forum—were also unveiled to promote institutional reforms and grassroots action.

The conclave concluded with the Delhi Declaration on Global Climate Action and Sustainability, affirming commitment to green innovation, finance, and public-private partnerships.
