Srinagar: Tata Motors has supplied the first batch of Ultra EV air-conditioned electric buses to Srinagar Smart City Limited, part of a 12-year order to supply, maintain, and operate 100 electric buses in Srinagar and Jammu for Smart City projects.

The Housing and Urban Development Department of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir is collaborating to establish an environmentally and financially sustainable public transport network in Srinagar.

The zero-emission buses are built with advanced battery systems, featuring next-gen architecture, and designed for safe, comfortable, and convenient intra-city transportation in Srinagar.

The fleet of e-buses was flagged off by J&K, Lieutenant General Manoj Sinha, and various officials from J&K, the Municipal Corporation of Srinagar, and Tata Motors, along with delegates from the Government of J&K and the Municipal Corporation of Srinagar.

The Lieutenant Governor stated that the electric buses will alter the city’s public transportation paradigm. He added that it was part of the city’s larger integrated sustainable urban mobility strategy. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unwavering support for the Union Territory.

Speaking on the occasion, Prashant Goyal, Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department, stated, “J&K has embarked on a new phase of urban development that will ease traffic congestion.” Tata Motors has signed a 12-year agreement with Srinagar Smart City Ltd. to improve the city’s last-mile passenger transport system.”

Srinagar Smart City Ltd. CEO Athar Aamir Khan commented on the occasion, saying, “The Srinagar Electric Bus Project is part of our integrated sustainable urban mobility of the city.” This is the first time in Srinagar that such a massive transformation in public transport is taking place. This will help to decongest the city and provide our citizens with reliable, affordable, and comfortable public transportation.”
