NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya M. Scindia underscored the development of world-class tourist circuits and regionally integrated growth initiatives during a series of High-Level Task Force (HLTF) meetings held on October 27.
The task forces, focused on economic corridors, tourism, and agriculture-horticulture, aim to foster inter-state collaboration and implement cohesive regional strategies following a consensus reached at the 72nd North Eastern Council Plenary Session in Agartala last year.
At the HLTF on Tourism chaired by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Scindia called for a bottom-up approach and a unified vision to attract both domestic and international tourists, particularly from neighboring countries. Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat emphasized tourism as a key driver of the region’s economy.
The HLTF on the North East Economic Corridor, chaired by Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, discussed enhancing connectivity through road, rail, air, waterways, energy, and digital infrastructure. Scindia urged the submission of a comprehensive final roadmap incorporating the feedback of member states.
During the HLTF on Agriculture and Horticulture, chaired by Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, discussions centered on boosting value addition, organic farming, and branding of regional produce. Scindia highlighted the importance of developing time-bound strategies to ensure sustainability and efficiency of public sector undertakings.
