NEW DELHI – Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia led a stakeholders meeting on Monday to strengthen the Sanchar Saathi initiative against telecom cyber frauds. The initiative, launched in January 2025, integrates tools like the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) and AI-driven fraud detection systems. It has successfully disconnected 82 lakh fake mobile connections, blocked 35 lakh stolen phones, and prevented 1.35 crore spoofed international calls.
Scindia also launched the Sanchar Saathi mobile app in Hindi and 21 regional languages, expanding accessibility for citizens. Available on Android and iOS, the app allows users to report fraud, block stolen phones, and verify unauthorized connections. With over 46 lakh downloads, the app enhances public participation in digital security.
The initiative has gained traction, with 620 organizations onboard, including law enforcement and telecom providers. So far, 4.7 crore fraudulent connections have been disconnected, and 5.1 lakh mobile handsets blocked.
Citizens from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh shared their positive experiences, emphasizing the platform’s efficiency in recovering stolen devices and blocking fraudulent activities.
Sanchar Saathi continues to evolve as a key tool in enhancing India’s cyber resilience and protecting citizens from telecom fraud.
