NEW DELHI— The Ministry of Power, Government of India, convened a meeting of the India Energy Stack (IES) Taskforce on Monday to accelerate the development of the nation’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for the power sector.

The IES, envisioned as a unified, secure, and interoperable digital backbone for the entire energy value chain, held a strategic review of its two core foundational documents: the draft IES Strategy Document (v0.1) and the IES Architecture Document (v0.1).

REC Limited serves as the Nodal Agency, with FSR Global as the Knowledge Partner for the initiative.

The Taskforce—which includes technology experts like Chairman Dr. Ram Sewak Sharma (Former DG, UIDAI) and Chief Architect Sh. Pramod Verma (Former Chief Architect, Aadhaar), along with power sector leaders—engaged in an in-depth discussion to provide high-level strategic guidance.

Shri Jitendra Srivastava, CMD, REC Limited, called the meeting a “pivotal milestone” in creating a “future-ready digital backbone,” noting that the initiative aims to accomplish for the power sector what Aadhaar did for identity and UPI achieved for payments.

The IES will establish common digital protocols, open APIs, and federated registries to bridge existing silos, enable real-time data exchange, and unlock operational efficiency for DISCOMs. The ultimate goal is to accelerate renewable energy integration, support green energy markets, and deliver consumer-centric power services.

The guidance received will be used to refine the framework and prepare for the pilot phase. Taskforce meetings will now be held monthly to ensure timely progress toward the projected July 2026 completion date.
