New Delhi : The National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) will conduct a nationwide Survey on Migration from July 2026 to June 2027. The survey seeks to provide updated data on migration patterns, reasons for migration, employment, income, and the social impact on households across India.
Migration surveys have been a part of the National Sample Survey (NSS) since 1955, with detailed rounds in 1963–64 and 2007–08, and recent data collected through the 2020–21 Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) and Multiple Indicator Survey.
The forthcoming survey aims to inform policymakers and planners on labour mobility, urbanisation trends, remittance flows, and the socio-economic integration of migrants, supporting interventions in urban planning, housing, employment generation, and skill development.
The NSO has uploaded the draft survey schedule on the MoSPI website for public consultation. Comments can be sent by November 30, 2025, to nssocpd.coord@mospi.gov.in and tc.sdrd-mospi@gov.in.
