Baku: Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani addressed a large gathering of the Indian diaspora in Baku on Monday evening, urging community members to deepen their engagement with India and play a greater role in its global rise.
Speaking to more than 1,000 attendees — including professionals from the oil and gas, hospitality and commodity trading sectors, along with 380 university students — the Minister praised the community’s unity and cultural vibrancy. He highlighted the presence of several active associations such as the Indian Azerbaijan Association, the Azerbaijan Telugu Association, the Baku Tamil Sangham and the Indian Students Association of Azerbaijan.
Dr. Pemmasani said the gathering reflected the face of a modern, ambitious and resilient India that continues to stay rooted in its heritage, even thousands of miles from home.
The Minister outlined India’s rapid progress across digital innovation, renewable energy, space exploration and economic expansion, calling the diaspora an essential partner in this transformation. “Your success strengthens India’s global standing, your investments create opportunities, and your children become cultural bridges of the future,” he said.
He urged the youth to embrace their dual identities with pride — combining India’s ancient wisdom with a modern, multicultural worldview. He encouraged the community to stay connected, mentor young entrepreneurs, share expertise and contribute to India’s ongoing growth story.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to overseas Indians, Dr. Pemmasani concluded by assuring the diaspora that India’s doors remain open as they continue to support and shape the nation’s future.
