NEW DELHI: India unveiled its bold aspirations to lead the global telecom revolution at the inauguration of Bharat Telecom 2025, a major international telecom summit held Tuesday in New Delhi. The event, hosted by the Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC) in partnership with the Department of Telecommunications, brought together over 130 foreign delegates from more than 35 countries and showcased over 80 Indian telecom and ICT companies.
“In just 22 months, we connected 99% of our villages with 5G and brought 82% of our population onto the network, deploying 470,000 towers — this is not evolution; it is a telecom revolution,” said Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who inaugurated the two-day event. He hailed India’s digital transformation as “a symphony of global collaboration and opportunity,” driven by policy, innovation, and inclusive growth.
Scindia underscored the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, which he credited with turning India “from a digital follower into a global digital leader. ” He added, “We’re not just connecting villages; we’re connecting futures.”
Minister of State for Communications Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar echoed this sentiment, emphasizing India’s shift from a consumer to a creator of telecom technologies. “The narrative has changed from made-for-India to made-by-India,” he said, highlighting the role of initiatives like Digital India, production-linked incentives, and spectrum reforms in boosting domestic innovation and exports.
The summit featured a dedicated International Business Expo, thematic sessions on next-gen technologies like 5G, IoT, satellite broadband, and AI-driven networks, and provided a platform for strategic B2B meetings and global collaboration.
Arnob Roy, Chairman of TEPC, welcomed delegates by spotlighting India’s indigenous telecom ecosystem as a global success story. “Bharat Telecom showcases the transformative power of India’s telecom innovation and manufacturing prowess,” he said.
Since its inception in 2009, TEPC has served as India’s flagship export promotion body for telecom equipment and services, aiming to position India as a trusted and competitive player in the global telecom landscape.
