NEW DELHI,: Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar on Tuesday led a high-level review of India Post’s sweeping transformation drive, marking a critical step in repositioning the department as a technology-first logistics and e-commerce enabler.
The review focused on Mail Operations, Parcel Operations, and Business Strategy, as part of the Government of India’s broader digital governance push under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
“India Post’s unmatched physical reach must now be powered by digital capability. This reform is about speed, scale, and seamless service—from village to metro,” Dr. Sekhar said.
As part of the India Post 2.0 initiative, over 86,000 post offices have already migrated to a new digital platform. The entire 1.65 lakh post office network is expected to be onboarded by August 4.
Other key reforms underway include:
- 344 new centralized Delivery Centres offering morning, evening, and holiday delivery
- Integration with ONDC for wallet bookings, real-time tracking, and reconciliation
- Collaboration with GeM for API-based pricing and dashboard-led COD settlements
- Real-time tracking, OTP-based authentication, e-proof of delivery, and open APIs
- Data analytics for smart sorting, route optimization, and demand forecasting
India Post aims to become India’s premier public logistics platform, uniquely positioned at the intersection of digital innovation and last-mile trust.
With a renewed digital roadmap and national integrations, officials said India Post is gearing up to rival private players in e-commerce delivery, while retaining its public service ethos.
As reforms deepen, the Department is poised to become a backbone of Bharat’s logistics network, with rural empowerment and digital economy enablement at its core.
