AZAMGARH: Azamgarh district has secured sixth place in Uttar Pradesh’s statewide development rankings, marking a dramatic turnaround credited to the leadership of District Magistrate (DM) Ravindra Kumar.
The rankings, released on September 10 by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s office based on progress during August 2025, reflect the performance of priority development programs tracked on the Chief Minister’s dashboard.
Just two months ago, Azamgarh was near the bottom of the list at 54th position. In July, the district rose to 25th, and by August, it achieved sixth place — a leap officials say is the result of persistent monitoring, effective teamwork, and quality execution of state schemes.
According to official data, in June 2025, the district had 61 programs under review, of which 46 earned an “A” grade, nine “B,” four “C,” and two “D.” In July, performance improved with 63 programs evaluated: 52 were graded “A,” eight “B,” two “C,” and one “D.” By August, Azamgarh was assessed on 66 programs, achieving 57 “A” grades, six “B,” two “C,” and one “D.”
“This achievement has been possible due to the consistent efforts of the administrative team and the active cooperation of various departments,” DM Kumar said in a statement. “Our goal is to make Azamgarh a leader in every field of development. We will continue working tirelessly to secure the top position in the coming months.”
Officials say the improved performance reflects a broader push by the Uttar Pradesh government to link district rankings directly with accountability and service delivery, with monthly progress reports publicly monitored through the CM Dashboard.
