NEW DELHI Rajasthan will host the first Tour de Thar cycling race on Nov. 23, with more than 2,500 riders expected to take on the desert’s winds, dunes, and expressway stretches.
Union ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled the race jersey and launched the registration portal on Wednesday at a curtain raiser in New Delhi. The jersey, themed on sustainability and the desert landscape, will be worn by competitors.
The race begins in Norangdesar and ends in Deshnok, with three categories: a 300-kilometer relay, a 200-kilometer event, and a 100-kilometer event. Professional and amateur cyclists from India and abroad are expected.
Organizers say the event will showcase endurance sport alongside Rajasthan’s cultural heritage, with local music, dance, and handicrafts featured along the route. Supported by Namo Fit India Cycle Clubs, the Tour de Thar is billed as a blend of sport, culture, and environmental consciousness aimed at boosting fitness and adventure tourism.
