NEW DELHI — The Union Government has released the Fifteenth Finance Commission (XV FC) Grants for Assam’s Rural Local Bodies for FY 2025–26, including the second installment of Untied Grants for FY 2024–25 totaling ₹219.24 crore. The funds have been allocated to 27 District Panchayats, 182 Block Panchayats and 2,192 Gram Panchayats across the state.
In addition, the Centre has released ₹4.698 crore from the previously withheld portion of the first instalment of the United Grants for FY 2024–25, benefiting 26 additional eligible Block Panchayats.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti recommend the XV FC allocations, which the Ministry of Finance then releases in two installments each financial year.
Untied Grants may be used by Panchayati Raj Institutions for location-specific developmental needs across the 29 subjects listed in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution, except for salaries and establishment costs. Tied Grants are earmarked for sanitation services, ODF sustainability, waste and fecal sludge management, drinking water supply, rainwater harvesting, and water recycling.
The latest release is expected to support grassroots-level development and strengthen service delivery across Assam’s rural administrative units.
