GANDHINAGAR :A first-of-its-kind artificial intelligence-enabled Virtual Reality (VR) courtroom simulation programme has been launched with support from APM Terminals Pipavav, marking a significant step toward immersive legal education and practice-based training in India’s maritime sector.
The programme, formally inaugurated by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during the sixteenth convocation ceremony at Gujarat National Law University, is designed to place learners inside a fully interactive virtual courtroom. It allows students to practice advocacy, evidence presentation and judicial engagement in simulated, high-stakes legal scenarios.
Developed by Maersk Training for Gujarat Maritime University, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical instruction and real-world legal proceedings, particularly in maritime disputes, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.
Senior members of the judiciary attending the launch included Supreme Court judge Aravind Kumar, Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Supreme Court judge Nilay Vipinchandra Anjaria.
The immersive simulation platform enables students to engage with complex legal proceedings in a virtual courtroom environment, helping build industry-relevant competencies within the evolving legal and maritime ecosystem.
Officials said the collaboration reflects a broader push toward innovation-driven academic partnerships aimed at strengthening institutional capacity in Gujarat’s maritime and legal education sectors, while supporting future-ready talent aligned with the growing complexity of India’s maritime industry.
