Agartala: The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), in collaboration with the Government of Tripura and UNDP, held a one-day workshop on “Strengthening Sub-National SDG Monitoring” in Agartala on August 22.
The event brought together States and Union Territories at the early stage of building their own monitoring frameworks for the 2030 Agenda. Speakers highlighted MoSPI’s National Indicator Framework (NIF) and efforts to help States and districts design State and District Indicator Frameworks (SIFs/DIFs) aligned with national priorities.
Tripura Planning Minister Bikash Debbarma stressed a whole-of-government approach to SDGs, while MoSPI Additional DG S.C. Malik emphasized timely, granular data and localized action to improve development outcomes. NITI Aayog Senior Advisor Rajiv Sen called for stronger institutions and monitoring-driven implementation.
UNDP officials reaffirmed support in building robust data systems, while technical sessions focused on indicator selection, departmental roles, and integrating gender and climate concerns. The workshop concluded with a joint call for evidence-based policymaking and accelerated progress toward the 2030 goals.
