NEW DELHI: India’s postal heritage and democratic journey took center stage today as Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated a national philatelic exhibition at the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya.

Organised by the Department of Posts in collaboration with the museum, the four-day exhibition titled “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat: Celebrating India’s Unity & Democracy through Postage Stamps” will run from April 14 to 17.

The exhibition features a curated collection of stamps showcasing India’s cultural diversity, historical milestones and postal legacy. Key themes include tributes to Presidents, Prime Ministers and freedom fighters, offering visitors a visual narrative of the country’s evolution.

Scindia toured the exhibition and interacted with philatelists, stamp collectors and designers, acknowledging their role in preserving India’s postal traditions.

Speaking at the event, he described the initiative as an important milestone for the postal department and highlighted its continuing role in nation-building. He also emphasized stronger collaboration between the Department of Posts and the museum to take similar exhibitions across the country.

The event coincided with the release of three sets of commemorative picture postcards marking the fourth foundation day of the museum, the birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar, and the Constitution of India.

An agreement was also signed between the two institutions to expand cooperation through exhibitions, outreach programmes and co-branded philatelic products. Officials said the partnership may include setting up a dedicated India Post counter at the museum to enhance public engagement.

During his visit, Scindia also toured a gallery dedicated to Narendra Modi, which showcases key moments from the prime minister’s life and tenure.

The exhibition is expected to draw students, collectors and history enthusiasts, reflecting a renewed push to connect younger generations with India’s postal and cultural heritage.
