DUBLIN: In a vibrant showcase of India’s cultural diversity, the Embassy of India in Dublin hosted its first-ever cultural event dedicated to Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, as part of its ongoing State Cultural Event Series.
The program featured a multimedia presentation highlighting the region’s historical, cultural, and tourist heritage, along with traditional dance performances, Kashmiri poetry recitations, and displays of textiles and crafts that reflected the artistic richness of the Himalayan region.
Ambassador Akhilesh Mishra praised the support of the local Kashmiri diaspora community in Dublin, numbering around 200, for their enthusiastic involvement in organizing the landmark event. He described Kashmir’s traditions as a “true reflection of India’s syncretic and inclusive civilizational ethos.”
Mishra noted that since the abrogation of Articl
e 370, Jammu & Kashmir has seen a resurgence in tourism and economic activity, driven by improved security and stronger connectivity with the rest of India. He also lauded efforts to revive the Sharda script and translate Kashmiri literature into Hindi, highlighting recent works such as the Kashmiri Ramayana and growing interest in Kashmir Shaivism philosopher Abhinavagupta and saint-poet Lal Ded.
The Ambassador said the State Cultural Event Series, launched in September 2023 and already featuring 18 Indian states, aims to deepen cultural understanding among the Indian diaspora and Irish audiences, celebrating the unity in India’s incredible diversity.
